Oral presentation (Business pitch)

March 18, 2020
When someone has an entrepreneurial idea, normally s/he needs resources to develop her/his idea. In order to get resources, it is necessary to look for sponsors to get financial support. One of the strategies to convince a sponsor is pitching or presenting the entrepreneurial idea, this oral presentation genre is known as a business pitch. This is the way I suggest presenting your projects.

Let's learn a little bit more about it!

1. Watch this video to know what a business pitch is:

2. Watch a sample of a pitch and answer the reading and listening comprehension questions:

Listening and reading comprehension questions:

1.     What is the first paragraph about?
2.     How did Stephane come up with the idea?
3.     What was the problem he solved?
4.     What is his solution (entrepreneurial idea)?
5.     How does his idea work?

Video script:

My name is Stephane. I'm the founder of the CEO Humana Games. Humana Games is making social impact games, on Facebook primarily, then it will go to mobiles.
I am here today looking for impact investors. We've already raised one million euros, we still need 500.000 euros to go on with the project and to finalize the development.

So, how the idea came?

I was involved in the microfinance sector and I realized that more than 300 million entrepreneurs, need a microcredit, and on the other side on Facebook, you have 400 million people who play games every month and probably they also need meaningful experiences. So, I said why not to connect these gamers to the entrepreneurs so they can help them.
I started one year and a half ago with a team of 10 in Paris and we’ve launched a test version of this game. It has been played by 300.000 gamers who also gave us a good rate; they evaluated the game and they gave us a grade of 48 out of 5, which is quite good for social game on Facebook, then it's encouraging or very happy we'd still need to work for six months and we will launch the game in September, so how is it working?
It has three dimensions:

The diaper dimension, this is a real game . It's fun. It's simple and accessible. You're running a virtual small shop. you grow your shop with virtual microcredit, so you learn that virtual microcredit can help you to develop your shop and then you have your home, your family and so on and you play with friends, this is the gaming experience.

The real world dimension, while playing, you earn virtual currency that you will allocate to real-world entrepreneurs that you meet in the game and while you are allocating this virtual currency, we have our sponsors who are matching this currency against  euros or dollars, so that the entrepreneurs will receive a real microcredit, so the the other is the more you play, the more impact you have.

Third dimension for sponsors, partners who want to communicate inside a game, they can play their own role whether there are microfinance institutions or even cooperate or nonprofit sponsors.

So, here we are, we’re almost ready, still need to find money for sure we are  looking for sponsors, even partners. We have already partnered with Kiva and  the USA or a baby loan in France, also discussing with Rhonda in India and we're also looking for business development who'd help us to fly higher.

So that’s it, thank you for your attention!
